When a tree comes down, decisions about the wood are often made quickly.
Storm-damaged, declining, or removed trees may be chipped, hauled away, or cut into firewood because those are the easiest options. Yet some logs contain material that could remain useful for generations.

A future table may require different log dimensions than smaller woodworking projects. Cutting a valuable section too short before speaking with a sawyer can limit what can be produced. For that reason, we encourage customers to contact us before a potentially useful log is divided into firewood-sized sections.
The size, species, condition, accessibility, and possible presence of metal all need to be considered. Freshly milled wood also contains significant moisture and is generally not ready to become furniture immediately. Proper drying is an important part of turning a log into stable woodworking material.
